Desera is a highly skilled and experienced psychotherapist maintaining a busy practice for both Adults and Adolescents. She qualified from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in 2009 and she is accredited by the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
In 2010 Desera completed a P.G Diploma in the area of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She subsequently specialised in the areas of self-harm and suicide intervention, working for over two years specifically in this area.
In 2016 Desera successfully completed a two year P.G dip in adolescent psychotherapy. Since then she has continued to build her practice, working with adolescents dealing with a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, stress, eating disorders, anger, and conflict resolution.
In working with each presenting issue, Desera is especially interested in factors which impede normative developmental pathways. For in understanding the underlying cause of the adolescent’s distress, interventions can be made which supports lasting change. Whilst individual sessions with adolescents are confidential, the continued involvement of parents or caregivers is a vital part of the process of therapy for the adolescent.
